Advanced Arrest/Control Tactics “Neck Cranks cont’d”

Author: Odhinn Kohout

Trying to control a person who is fighting your attempts to place them in cuffs or custody using only arm strength is tough. A far better approach is to understand how the body works in tandem with the spinal column and to take away the Attacker’s ability to counter what you are doing.

In the picture you will notice that I am facilitating the crucifix position (which is a neck crank) using a sit out position.

Why?

Instead of trying use arm strength to pin the Attacker down while I wait for help to arrive I am using the power of my weight and hips (core) to lock the bad-guy to the ground.

Autonomics:

In the third picture you will see my training partner’s legs raised very high in the air. He is not faking this for the picture…Compressing the crucifix will cause a reflexive response to occur in the lower extremities as the body attempts (unconsciously) to alleviate the strain on the C1-C4 Vertebrae of the upper thoracic. There is actually a great deal of flexion of the spine downward towards the chest but not in the other direction. Unlike most companies we take the time to explain these nuances so that you understand why the bio-mechanics of the body are responding this way as opposed to the pictures merely representing a “technique” which for the most part would have little contextual
basis to work from.

Train hard Guys!
